Background
Roulston’s reputation as an esteemed residential property developer is built on delivering luxurious homes in selected areas of inner-Melbourne.
Led by Rollo Wright, Roulston prides itself on choosing to collaborate with reputable project partners who share its vision on delivering properties that are refined and intuitive in all aspects of design and construction.
“I’ve been in the development industry for over 20 years and have a breadth of experience from working with boutique developers right up to large, publicly-listed companies,” Wright said.
“When I conceived Roulston, my vision was to create premium townhouses and apartments in prestigious locations.
Collaboration is key to Roulston’s success: we join forces with established private equity partners for funding, then respected and revered architects to deliver distinguished designs in very carefully-considered pockets of Melbourne.
The result are sophisticated homes that are both attractive from the streetscape and spacious, luxurious and functional in which to live.”
Challenge
Prior to Landchecker’s launch in 2016, Roulston sourced land and property information from publicly-available online sources.
“I had to resort to using a little ruler to measure the dimensions of sites I was interested in acquiring for development,” Wright said.
“Looking back on it now, the process was archaic!
I was literally wasting time manually measuring blocks and basing my decision to purchase parcels of land worth multiple millions of dollars on data that was never guaranteed of being accurate.
Far from ideal for a prestigious property developer – but, back then, we literally had no other choice.”
Solution
Enter: Landchecker!
Roulston was an early-adopter of the Landchecker app, and since diving in head first in 2016, has never looked back.
Predominantly using Landchecker to inform its decision on purchasing potential development sites, Roulston also takes advantage of the app’s high resolution aerial imagery.
And, according to Wright, it’s smooth, seamless – and dependable.
“Having Landchecker launch to market was a godsend,” Wright said.
“The Roulston team can literally login, search for a development site by a specific address or even as broad as a postcode, and be presented with all the data we need – from land size, development constraints and opportunities, historic and current sales data, planning precedent information and permits – absolutely everything. And all in the one place!
We then often use the satellite aerial function to assess surrounding areas of that site, all which helps us make informed purchase decisions.
We’ve come a long way from using our little ruler.”
Outcome
Roulston considers Landchecker to be an extension of its collaborative team, relying on the data it presents to bolster its development pipeline. Or not, depending on the information Landchecker provides.
Accuracy and efficiency are both key to the success of Roulston’s day-to-day operations, but it’s also the user-friendliness of the app that Wright considers another huge positive.
“The easy-to-use nature of Landchecker is personally a key feature for me, dramatically reducing time previously wasted on manual searches,” Wright said.
“The fact we can navigate the Landchecker site so effortlessly in order to identify sites to maximise development potential – and ultimately deliver superior residential developments – is crucial.
Landchecker absolutely saves us time and money, which is what every developer wants.
We’ll continue to work with the Landchecker team on helping us achieve this on a day-to-day basis.”
