Landchecker Maps Victoria’s New Train and Tram Activity Centres
Property professionals can now access Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the draft plan for the activity centre to identify development opportunities fast.
Victoria’s train and tram zone activity centres are now available on Landchecker. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are mapped in the platform, giving developers, planners, agents and other property professionals instant access to the latest data on where growth is being encouraged across Victoria.
Understanding the Draft Framework
The Victorian government has created a new program to address the state's housing supply issues.
This initiative will focus on establishing 60 train and tram zone activity centres throughout Melbourne to concentrate housing, employment and essential services within these areas.
William Bromhead, CEO at Ratio, said: "By focusing development around existing public transport infrastructure, this policy will help unlock significant housing supply for Victorians while making efficient use of our transit networks."
"This is the kind of transport-oriented planning Victoria needs to create liveable, well-connected communities and provide more Victorians with the opportunity to live near the places they work and the people they love," Bromhead added.

What this Means for Property Professionals Using Landchecker
With these draft activity centres now available in the Landchecker platform, members can layer them with existing planning zones such as the Housing Choice & Transport Zone (HCTZ) and Built Form Overlay (BFO).
This makes it easier to identify potential opportunities, understand the planning intent, and conduct thorough due diligence.

The industry’s response to this program has been immediate. Commercial agents are already seeing heightened demand for development sites within the new draft activity centres.
Jozef Dickinson, National Director of Development Site Sales at Colliers, said: “The Colliers Residential team has been particularly active in understanding what these policy changes mean for their assets, both current and future. This is the most progressive planning regime to occur in decades, and our team is already working on unlocking key sites that really can make a difference in the housing landscape throughout Melbourne.”

By taking advantage of technology like Landchecker, property professionals can quickly analyse draft planning zones and match them with client requirements, significantly reducing the time spent on site assessment.
“When helping clients navigate the draft planning zones and identifying sites that can really capitalise on the improved feasibility and transport connectivity is key—Landchecker is the perfect platform for us to do this," Dickinson added.
