Landchecker x ICEYE Webinar: Flood Impacts and Property Due Diligence

Join Landchecker and ICEYE, the global leader in flood event detection via SAR satellites, to see how new technology is changing the game. In this 30-minute session, you’ll learn:

How ICEYE captures real-world flood impacts using Earth observation

The difference between modelled flood risk and actual flood extent

How this data is integrated and accessed into Landchecker’s platform to enable faster, more confident decisions

We’ll also showcase a demo comparing modelled vs. actual flood layers — and how this helps you perform faster, more accurate due diligence.

Summary

Landchecker's Background and Goals:

Landchecker was founded in 2017 to address the fragmented data issues faced by property developers and architects in Australia.

The platform centralises data from national, state, and local government sources, as well as private sector partners.

Landchecker saves thousands of hours for Australian businesses by providing a standardised, centralised national platform.

The platform also offers brokerage services for property documents and API capabilities for advanced clients.

ICEYE Overview:

A Finnish Earth observation company with 44+ Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites.

SAR can see through clouds, darkness, and smoke—ideal for disaster intelligence.

Captures real flood events, not just modelled projections.

Delivers flood extent and depth data with up to 30cm accuracy.

Data used by major organisations including Geoscience Australia and the National Emergency Management Agency.

Demonstration:

    Victoria (Flemington Flood 2022):

Compared standard planning overlays with ICEYE flood data.

ICEYE provided real-time flood extent and 48 cm depth within 2 weeks post-event.

Illustrated value in accurate flood assessment where planning data lags.

    New South Wales (Lismore):

ICEYE detected multiple flood impacts at 16 Bailey Street from both 2022 and 2023 events.

Verified that the property had since been acquired by the government.

Showed added context and decision-making clarity through ICEYE reports.

    Queensland (Woolloongabba & Harvey Bay):

ICEYE data confirmed flood impact at 23 Flower Street with 95 cm depth.

Demonstrated value for developers assessing acquisition risks.

Highlighted effectiveness in regional areas (e.g., Harvey Bay), which often lack updated council flood data.

Q&A Highlights:

When is the flood available in Landchecker?

2 weeks after the flood event you will see the data in Landchecker.

Who has access to the ICEYE Flood data within the Landchecker platform?

Any customer who has access to a paid plan in Standard, Advance or Enterprise. Flood reports are $49 including GST to access depth and when the event occurred.

Who are the typical clients of ICEYE data?

ICEYE typically delivers insights to the insurance industry and Government agencies for achieving substantially better outcomes before, during, and after disasters.

Are all floods captured by ICEYE?

ICEYE's expert team initiates flood analysis based on a comprehensive set of factors, including cause, impact, severity and duration. ICEYE primarily targets floods caused by overflowing rivers (fluvial) and heavy rainfall (pluvial) that last longer than 12 hours and displays evidence of water depths sufficient to impact buildings (typically exceeding 30 centimetres).

How accurate is the flood data?

Due to the inherently unpredictable nature of flood events, ICEYE uses commercially reasonable efforts to provide flood depth within 30 cm Mean Absolute Error (MAE), at a 3-5m horizontal resolution, dependent on SAR satellite capture, terrain and observational data.

    Typical ICEYE clients?

Primarily insurance companies and government agencies, now expanding to property and development sectors through Landchecker.

Conclusion:

This partnership enables users to quickly identify flood-affected properties using real, satellite-based flood data directly in the Landchecker platform. It significantly improves accuracy, speed, and confidence in property due diligence—especially during and after extreme weather events.
